LithMag was founded with a single objective: to improve the way lithium battery fires are prevented, managed, and controlled.

Since 2022, we have been researching lithium battery fire behaviour, emerging battery technologies, and the operational challenges faced by fire services, industry, insurers, and facility managers. As lithium-powered devices have become an everyday part of modern life—from e-bikes and electric vehicles to battery energy storage systems—the need for practical, evidence-based fire protection solutions has never been greater.

Rather than offering individual products in isolation, LithMag has developed an integrated range of equipment designed to address the unique hazards presented by lithium battery incidents. Every product we supply has been carefully evaluated for its performance, quality, and suitability for real-world emergency response and risk management.

Our product range combines specialist fire blankets, Aqueous Vermiculite Dispersion (AVD) extinguishers, PFAS-free encapsulating foam technology, thermal containment solutions, and supporting equipment to provide practical solutions for incidents involving lithium-ion batteries across domestic, commercial, industrial, and emergency service environments.

Our philosophy is simple: no single product solves every lithium battery fire. Effective response requires understanding the nature of the incident and selecting the right equipment for the task. This systems-based approach underpins both our product selection and our ongoing research.

In addition to supplying equipment, LithMag is actively involved in developing operational guidance, risk assessment methodologies, and best-practice procedures for lithium battery incidents. We work closely with manufacturers, researchers, emergency responders, and industry partners to ensure our recommendations remain informed by the latest technical developments and operational experience.

Our Regulatory & Product Selection Philosophy

Bringing the best available technology to lithium battery fire safety

LithMag was established with a simple objective: to identify and bring together the best available products and technologies from around the world to address the rapidly evolving challenge of lithium battery fires.

This is not a static field. Battery chemistries, cell designs, energy densities and applications continue to evolve, and so does our understanding of how these batteries behave when they fail.

We therefore continually research, evaluate and test new technologies. We do not believe there is a single “magic bullet” for every lithium battery incident. The most effective approach is to select the right technology for the specific risk and then deliver it through the most appropriate equipment and response system.

Certification matters — but certification alone is not enough

Lithium battery fire safety presents a particular challenge for regulators, manufacturers and end users.

Testing methodologies are still developing, standards and test protocols differ between jurisdictions, and there is not yet a universally accepted method of benchmarking every type of lithium battery firefighting technology against every battery chemistry, size and application.

Regional certification can therefore be a complex and lengthy process, particularly where standards are still evolving.

LithMag's approach is not to use the absence of a particular regional certification as a substitute for evidence, engineering or responsible product selection.

Instead, we look globally for established technologies, credible manufacturers, appropriate testing, recognised standards and demonstrable performance.

Where applicable, we select equipment manufactured and tested to recognised standards and certification regimes including ASME, ANSI, DOT, FM, BSI, CE, PED, TÜV, MED and other relevant international standards.

We then select and configure those technologies specifically for the risks associated with lithium batteries and other high-energy systems.

Professional equipment for professional risks

Our objective is not simply to sell an extinguisher.

We are developing a range of professional-grade lithium battery fire protection equipment and systems, selected for demanding environments and designed around real-world fire response.

Where appropriate, our equipment is selected to withstand severe operating conditions, extended service requirements and the demands of professional emergency response.

We also consider NATO and other demanding operational requirements when evaluating equipment suitability, with the aim of providing products that meet or exceed the performance expectations of the environments in which they may ultimately be deployed.

Our commitment

We will continue to search globally, test new technologies and challenge our own assumptions.

If a better product becomes available, we want to find it.

Our customers should not have to navigate a fragmented and rapidly changing technology landscape on their own. LithMag's role is to evaluate the available technologies, understand their strengths and limitations, and build practical firefighting solutions around them.

Our commitment is simple:

Use the right equipment.
Be honest about what it can and cannot do.
And give the customer the best possible chance of controlling a lithium battery incident before it becomes a much larger event.

All certification, approval and compliance claims relate to the specific product, configuration and jurisdiction concerned. Customers should confirm applicable regulatory requirements for their location and intended application before purchase or deployment.
