PFAS-free encapsulating foam for demanding fire risks

The Trident special fire extinguisher combines a high-performance encapsulating foam agent with a robust stainless-steel pressure vessel, providing a powerful first-response capability for a wide range of difficult fire scenarios.

Trident is particularly suited to environments where conventional extinguishing agents may be less effective or where the fire involves materials capable of retaining heat and allowing re-ignition.

The system uses Trident extinguishing agent manufactured to EN 1568-3, ICAO B, discharged using compressed air at 18–20 bar.

Its applications include plastics, cable fires, engine and metal fires, tyres, electrical equipment, solar and energy systems, and fires involving lithium-ion batteries.

Designed for specialist fire risks

Trident special extinguishers are based on the principles of EN 3 and are intended as special-purpose firefighting equipment. They are not intended to replace legally required portable extinguisher provision where such provision is mandated.

Trident is particularly suitable for:

  • Lithium-ion battery fires

  • Solar and energy storage systems

  • Electrical equipment

  • Plastic and polymer fires

  • Cable fires

  • Engine fires

  • Metal fires

  • Tyre fires

  • Other difficult Class A/B fire risks

Lithium-ion battery applications

Lithium-ion battery incidents present a particularly challenging combination of fire, heat and re-ignition risk.

Trident provides an effective first-response agent for the surrounding fire and combustible materials, helping to suppress the visible fire and control the immediate fire environment.

For lithium-ion battery incidents, Trident should be considered as part of a layered response strategy, rather than as a single-agent solution for every battery fire.

LithMag's approach recognises that a battery incident can involve two distinct fire problems: the surrounding fire and the continuing thermal event within the battery itself. The appropriate response depends on the battery chemistry, size, configuration, state of the incident and access to the affected cells.

For larger battery systems, vehicles, energy storage systems and other high-energy applications, specialist assessment and additional cooling or containment measures may be required.

Why Trident?

Trident is designed for situations where rapid fire knockdown and effective coverage of combustible materials are important.

Its encapsulating foam technology provides more than simply putting out the visible flame. The extinguishing agent is designed to interact with the burning material, helping to suppress the fire and reduce the immediate fire environment.

For lithium-ion battery incidents, this makes Trident a valuable component of a two-stage firefighting strategy — controlling the surrounding fire while specialist cooling, containment or other measures address the battery's continuing thermal event.

Important

Trident is specialist firefighting equipment. Selection of extinguishing equipment should be based on the specific fire risk, battery type, energy capacity, installation and operating environment.

For lithium-ion batteries and energy storage systems, LithMag can provide a battery risk assessment and help determine an appropriate firefighting strategy and equipment configuration.
